Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, What a joy to experience the beautiful, warm summer sunshine… It’s so fascinating to me to realize that the sun is the same--Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall. The sun doesn’t get hotter for us in the summer, we just get a little closer to it. Actually, that’s not quite the reason for the extra sun and heat, either, I suppose. Being tilted closer to the sun in the summer doesn’t make a big difference in terms of our distance from the sun. It does make a big difference in the angle of the sun’s rays toward us, though. The sun shines more directly on us in the summer. The sun comes to the center of our sky--not because the sun changed, but because we‘re angled toward the sun. The changeless sun may seem different only because of an Earth that changes with its seasons. That reminds me of our changeless Savior… “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) May our hearts be angled toward the Son… “I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:17b-19) May the unchanging Son come to the center of your “sky.” “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33) That is my prayer for your lives individually, as well as for our life together. For Vacation Bible School teaching this June… For the fellowship of our Church Picnic this July… May our hearts be angled toward the Son, and may He be at the center of our “sky.” Yours in Christ, Pastor Gary |
